CBD could be a $20B U.S. industry by 2025

By Alex Halperin

There’s a corporate rush to get in on the CBD industry which could expand from $2B in U.S. sales to $20B by 2025, according to cannabis data firm BDSA

Kelly Nielsen, VP insights at BDSA told Business Insider that the largest consumer packaged goods companies across health, beauty, wellness, food and alcohol all want into the CBD market.

  • While CBD has been touted as a remedy for everything from anxiety to arthritis to insomnia, Nielsen said a key question is whether the products it’s in “live up to consumer expectations.”
  • “That’s an area the industry needs to keep a really close eye on,” Nielsen said. “Making sure the product is doing what it’s supposed to be doing.”
  • Despite rampant consumer interest, many established U.S. companies are still keeping their distance. And you won’t find CBD products at many major retailers, including Amazon and Wal-Mart.
