Cannabis is a social drug. It pairs well with all sorts of activities, from bowling to walking to sex. Especially sex. Seriously. Weed and sex go together like weed and sex. Cannabis heightens the senses and makes things hella pleasurable. But don’t take my word for it. Ask around. What’s that? You’re too shy to ask about it? Allow me to help:
I made a Twitter post asking for advice about combining cannabis and copulation, and folks were climbing all over each other to respond. SF based comedian Natasha muse said this: “All I know is weed is good before sex but even better afterward”. Queer Cannabis Friendly Pornstar Velma Voodoo chimed in with: “In my experience it helps me get out of thinking about how I’m performing, and more about how I’m feeling in conjunction with my partner.”
A follower who wished to remain anonymous told me: “I don’t have scientific information just experience. I have complex PTSD which was undiagnosed until about a year in a half ago. Went on pharmaceuticals, had horrible reactions and went off of everything. When Medical Marijuana was finally legalized in my state (Oklahoma), I went and got my license. I can say it’s been a complete life changer. My PTSD is mostly due to sexual trauma, but to my surprise it has helped me learn to love my body and my partner and I now are boning like bunnies, as before it was just a typical once or twice a week. I don’t know exactly how or why it reacts to my body that way, but it’s been able to take my mind and heart and open it to a level of intimacy that I had never experienced before. Everyone should smoke or even eat and be intimate with their partner.”
And there you have it. Weed can change your (sex) life. But why does cannabis help so much? Glad you asked. First of all, cannabis hits the CB1 cannabinoid receptors in your brain, improving tactile sensations and increasing an overall feeling of euphoria. Also, cannabis use can sometimes create a “time dilation” effect, so things seem to last longer. While that may not be the best thing for sitting through a lecture, it’s awesome for riding an orgasmic wave. Studies show that stoners generally have better sex more often, so we’ve also got that going for us.
Now, if you haven’t yet experienced the joy of doing the smokey-pokey, don’t worry. We can talk you through it. First thing: Find a strain that contains the terpenes that help you relax. Some folks say myrcene (Think OG Kush) is the one, others like limonene (Do-si-do), some folks don’t care, they just like to be high. Ashley Manta, the award winning sex and intimacy coach and self-described “cannasexual”, recommends keeping track of the strains you’ve used for sexytime to help you find what’s best for you.
Also: you don’t need to be hella high. No one is trying to have sex with an anxiety-riddled paranoiac, unless that’s your thing. A toke or two should do. In fact, you don’t even have to smoke. A small dose of edibles also work well, but don’t overdo it. Stupors aren’t sexy.
If you really want to get it going, use a cannabis infused lube. Seriously. Use a cannabis infused lube. Cannabis infused lubes are great! Chelsea Cebara is the formulator of Velvet Swing, one of the first and most popular canna-lubes on the market. I asked her for tips and advice, and this is what she said: “Cannabis is a peripheral vasodilator–it increases blood flow in the smallest blood vessels in the body. It’s not hard to see how this enhances sexual response given the major role that blood flow plays. Increased sensitivity, presence, and awesomely, orgasmic potential–meaning longer, stronger, more frequently multiple orgasms are in the offing. This is especially true for topicals!”
She also pointed out that canna-lubes won’t get you “stoned” because there’s only a little bit of THC in the lube itself, and penises and vaginas aren’t great at THC absorption. However if you eat it or stick some in your bum, you might get a little high.
And here is her advice for best results: “Cannabis “lubes” aren’t primarily for lubrication, they are topicals that work best with enough time to absorb. To get the best results, put the product on your privates and give it 20-40 minutes before starting playtime. You can always add more for lubrication later :)”. Yes, she included an old-school smiley face emoji in her message. If you take her advice, you will probably end up making a smiley face as well.
