The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control warned about dangers associated with Delta-8 THC, the intoxicating cannabinoid many unlicensed companies manufacture from CBD. FDA says the unregulated manufacturing process could contaminate products.
- The compound, which is widely available in gas stations, head shops and other outlets in states where REC isn’t legal, is not regulated. Some states, including Colorado, have banned Delta-8 while others require it to pass through the licensed cannabis program for testing.
- Cannabis growers in some states have been concerned about competition from Delta-8.
- There’s been speculation that the warning is a predecessor to regulation.
